02:27 pm - Hot/Dull Lifestyle Tip/Old Computer for grabs
People, if you are bemoaning the icky orange weird bacteria -or-whatever scunge that starts to grow on your shower curtain liner: wash it! I've always done this, but I told someone, and they said they though you couldn't wash plastic. Au contraire! Just wad the darned thing up and stuff it in the washer with a few towels (I do my white bath stuff so I can glug in some bleach), set it on large, blork in some laundry detergent and let 'er rip. I just hung it back up to dry and I feel like a new woman.
---
Extra-boring tip for those with even more time/compulsion: I threw the white plastic curtain rings in the dish washer because they had faint rust stains on them.

I have an iMac that I no longer use. It has OSX on it (not sure which version), and is fine, just too old for me. Anybody want it (free)? (Local, I'm guessing, because I don't have any money with which to ship it.)

07:53 am - Free To Be... 43!
I have a history of saying I'm going to lay low on my birthday, but that seems a little passive aggressive. Like, did you forget to say something to me? Well, hmmph!
So, in my new, grab-it-by-the-horns lifestyle, I'm inviting everyone to have an extra sweet day because I was born this very day in 1964. Dig it!
I'd also like to invite you to spread a little frosting on that sweet day by giving some love to my birthday sister,
mirrormargaret. Happy birthday, angel cake. (It must be noted that, selfishly, she has shared herself with the world for 5 years less than I have, but then, her skin is measurably younger looking. We give in different ways.)

11:55 pm - Snackronicity

A few nights ago I was making dinner for the family, and called to check and see if crab cakes would sit well by most. M. laughed and said that The Beetle and Mr. J had been begging for "Krabby Patties" for lunch after a jag of SpongeBob, and had been saddened to hear that they didn't really exist. Little did they know what lay in store. She told them we were having a surprise for dinner, and T brought down some burger rolls and raw spinach to complete the illusion. I made a little magic sauce (ketchup and mayo), and I swear, it blew their minds. In your face, Squidward!

I'm moving my book logging over to goodreads.com... where you can find out what I thought about The Wright Three.
I think you can find me this way: http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/3373

09:29 pm - Zippy
Hey... I made my first piece of clothing with a zipper in it over my recent vacation at my parents' house. It's a jumper for the Beetle. Here's my mom in her well appointed sewing dominion with the child, modeling the garment:

07:51 pm - What I *Like* To Hear Yelled Out A Car Window
This morning when I took out the trash, I took the time to weed the front "pie" (mini planted area between all of our driveways). As I crouched down with my butt to the road, a woman drove by and shouted out her window, "It's beautiful!" It just made me feel so good. (I'm assuming she was talking about the planting.)
It really takes so little to make my day. And this made me feel better about the fact that I tend to yell compliments out my car window to people, and sometimes I'm afraid that might freak them out.

02:34 pm - Cakestravaganza!
I really wish I'd gotten any good pictures of The Beetle's birthday festivities last weekend, but I have at least a technical documentation of some of it:

10:09 am - Camera needs a home
I have a Nikon FG-20 that I bought in 1984, and used with great happiness through many photo classes and life in general. I keep thinking I'll bust it out and shoot film again, but I haven't used it for years (and years and years), and it's time to let it go. Does anybody know anyone who shoots film and would be interested in a retro manual camera? I'm willing to just give it to the right person, or do some sort of trade. I'd like to think that some arty sort is enjoying it.

edited to add: Found a home for it.

wikkid_smaht is wicked bossy!
She made me do it. I've transferred my pre-surgery journal from Blogger over to LJ so I can see comments and answer them: it's at
the_new_perfect. The past entries are a little wadded up and I'll try to make it prettier/neater later, but for now, there you go.
If you're interested, feel free to friend me over there.
What... no housewarming presents?

10:15 pm - Hmm.
The Beetle (reading out loud in the back seat, on her way to school): "There are many things you can do in your room while you're alone, like daydream, read, listen to music, touch your body, watch TV..." ... "Hey, one of those things is wrong to do."
Me: "Really?"
The Beetle: "Yeah. It's goofy to watch TV in your room. That's crazy."
